JAMMU, Jan 30: Rich tribute were paid to `father of the nation’ Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom in a function held at Congress office, Shaheedi Chowk Jammu today.
Working president JKPCC Raman Bhalla (former minister) presided over the function while senior leaders JKPCC senior vice president and chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Vinod Sharma-PCC vice president Incharge PCC headquarters. Narinder Gupta general secretary (Org), Narinder Sharma- general secretary, Thomas Khokhar- general secretary, Th. Manmohan Singh- DCC president Jammu (Urban), DCC president Ramban Pervez Ahmed Wani, Sahil Sharma and others were also present.
Speaking on the occasion Bhalla paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and remembered the great contribution of father of nation who led the freedom movement of the country and achieved it through non- violence means. His philosophy of non- violence, peace and brotherhood is becoming more relevant with every passing day as the entire world looks towards Mahatma Gandhi for guidance.
He cautioned the people against the communal and divisive forces who are bent upon to divide the society for their vested interest which goes against basic principle and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi who preached patience and religious tolerance which is fundamental to the security and integrity of the nation.
Bhalla cautioned the people and the party workers against the attempt to torpedo the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi by certain forces who glorify his killer and said that such a path is a threat to the secular fabric of this nation, as secularism is the basic strength of our pluralistic society.
Ravinder Sharma in his address said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is becoming more relevant with every passing day. The entire world tries to learn a lesson from his life and principles. His philosophy holds the key to peace and religious harmony in the world. He taught non-violence and tolerance to deal with all issues confronting the humanity. The countrymen should follow his principles to have peace and harmony.
Similar functions were held at Srinagar and other party offices at various district headquarters across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
