JAMMU, Feb 28: The Congress party today paid tributes to the veteran leader and freedom fighter late Om Chopra, Ex-MLA Jammu East at the Congress office in a function held under the leadership of PCC working president and former minister Raman Bhalla and former minister Yogesh Sawhney (I/C DCC Jammu (U).
The day marked his 6th death anniversary. The district Congress leaders present at the meeting remembered him fondly and recalled his contributions to the party and the community. His long spanning career included his participation in the freedom struggle of the country, his term as Member of Legislative Assembly and his service as the District president Jammu (U) for more than 25 years.
Raman Bhalla remembered the veteran leader on the occasion and said that his life’s memories are cherished by all those who knew him. He said that Om Chopra was a deeply revered leader in the political and social community and he holds several achievements under his name. He served the longest term as the District president Jammu (U) and worked diligently at the grassroots level throughout his career to be in touch with the core problems faced by the people.
Yogesh Sawhney also spoke on his recollections of the memories with his father-in-law and senior Congress leader. He said that the whole life of Om Chopra was dedicated to the nation and the party. He fought for the independence of India bravely and relentlessly. After India’s independence, he carved out for himself an inspiring journey in politics and public service. He was a kind hearted person who selflessly served in all capacities. In all his works, he carried the spirit of the Indian Constitution, the ideals of fraternity and secularism. As an MLA and DCC president Jammu, he will be remembered for a long time to come, Sawhney added.
Prominent among those present included Sukhdev Choudhary, Councillors Dawarka Choudhary and Pritam Singh, Dr. Ramakant Khajuria, Pawan Dev Singh, Varinder Manhas, Chander Sheikhar Sharma, Jatin Vashisht, Arif Malik and others.
