JAMMU, Dec 6: Congress candidate for Bishnah constituency, Gulchain Singh Charak, today said that Congress has played a historic role in steering the country to its present status of progress and prosperity.
While addressing a large gathering on the occasion of opening of the party office at Mehmoodpur and also at a public meeting at Powal village, Charak reiterated that Congress has always believed that social and economic empowerment shall take the country to greater heights.
He said that his party has given many popular and futuristic programmes for the upliftment of weaker sections and welfare of rural masses like MGNREGA, Indira Awas Youjna, Sarv Shiksha Abhiyaan, National Rural Health Mission, Mid Day Meal etc. He asserted that the people of the country in large numbers have been benefited by implementation of these programmes.
Charak said that opening of party offices in villages shall facilitate free interactions amongst the Congress workers and the voters and help conveying grievances of the local areas to the top leaders. He added that his focus will be especially on border and remote areas which could not share the fruits of development due to one or the other reasons, particularly due to disturbed border conditions and constant firing and infiltration by Pakistan.
Earlier, Charak undertook door to door meetings at Ward No 10 (Bishnah) to personally meet the people and apprise them about his future policies and programmes specially tailored for the development and giving a modern look to the Bishnah constituency.
