CHANDIGARH, Sept 1: BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh today lamented senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for trying to play cheap politics in the name of martyrs on the issue of the Jallianwala Bagh.
In a statement Chugh, while complimenting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for infusing new life in the Jallianwala Bagh after undertaking renovation work worth Rs 20 crores, fired Rahul Gandhi for running down the efforts of the Prime Minister to score fake political points.
Chugh said for more than four decades when AICC president, Sonia Gandhi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh were in the helm of affairs at the Jallianwala Bagh, not even a single brick was renovated.
“Visitors to the martyrdom place could not even have basic facilities at the spot leave aside making the historic place educative and enlightening for them. It is a shame that Rahul Gandhi, instead of appreciating the creative effort made by the Prime Minister is playing petty politics on the matter”, said Chugh.
He said the Congress never had any respect for freedom fighters and for those who sacrificed their lives for the country. “After all what would Sonia Gandhi and his family know about the freedom struggle of India?” he asked wondering of Rahul Gandhi could count even ten names of freedom fighters. He said he was not sure if Rahul Gandhi knew why and when did the Jallianwala Bagh massacre take place.
Chugh said it was a matter of shame for the nation that the Gandhi family which is hardly rooted in the Indian culture, has been exploiting issues of freedom fighters randomly.
