JAMMU, Aug 13: Congress Party activists today held strong protest at Canal Road, in Jammu under the leadership of PCC secretary Narinder Gupta.
Accompanied by prominent party leaders Pawan Sharma, Tamana Heer, Anita Sharma, Darshan Lal, Ashok Kumar, Gharu Ram, Ved Parkash and others many party workers including those from Ward Number 12, Krishna Nagar, assembled on busy Canal Road and held protest demonstration. They were shouting slogans against the BJP and LG Administration for imposing Property Tax and forcibly installing Smart Meters.
Expressing their dissatisfaction over the installation of Smart Meters and implementing Property Tax and citing concerns about their ability to afford the high bills generated by these meters, these protesting workers alleged that people are being harassed and terrorized as agency is now using police force to install these meters. The protesters went through the streets and main road of the city area.
Narinder Gupta said that the majority of households in the area belongs to the weaker section of the society and have very meager income and the financial burden imposed by the Smart Meters and Property Tax would be beyond their means. While demanding justice with poor and downtrodden people, Congress leader sought immediate rollback on the move of the UT administration.
He also expressed great concern over the burning issue of old age/widow pension and handicapped pension which has been stopped for the last one year. The poor people are moving from pillar to the post but no one listens. The local BJP leaders have gone to hibernation and feel helpless to resolve their sufferings.
He claimed that Congress will strongly raise the voice of the people and fight against the anti-poor and anti-people decisions of the BJP and UT Administration. He appealed the people to get united and give their whole-hearted support to the Congress party to strengthen the hands of JKUT and Central leadership of the party.
