JAMMU, Mar 3: The Congress party today lodged a strong protest against the controversial remarks of Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed soon after taking oath on Sunday, where he had claimed that Pakistan, Hurriyat and militants allowed conducive atmosphere for violence- free Assembly elections in J&K State.
The protest demonstration was held under the leadership of Vikram Malhotra, general secretary, JKPCC. Mr Malhotra along with large number of his supporters and party workers accorded a warm welcome to the new PCC chief outside the party head office in Jammu. Leading the strong protest amid slogans against these remarks of the Chief Minister, Malhotra also accused the BJP of virtual “sellout” of the mandate of the people of Jammu region.
“This unfortunate statement of Mufti Sayeed, that too on the day of his taking oath of office as the Chief Minister of the State, is one side an attempt to appease the pro-Pakistan and separatist forces, besides, militants in the Kashmir valley and on the other is aimed at discouraging Army and security forces,” he said and added, “It’s an open fact that Army and other security forces have given innumerable sacrifices to maintain peace and tranquility in Jammu & Kashmir, and peaceful Assembly as well as Parliamentary elections are a result of their unparallel contribution to the local civil administration in the State.”
“Not only this, the giving in of its core agenda and party policy by the BJP leadership just to enter into the corridors of power in the State, is an open breach of trust of people, who gave their massive mandate,” Mr Malhotra lamented.
He further said that the BJP had floated revocation of Article 370 as its core agenda during elections and gathered votes on this account, besides, had been struggling against two flags system in Jammu & Kashmir but just to gain power, they surrendered it and befooled the people.
On this occasion, the Congress leader called upon the people of Jammu region in particular and of whole State in general to understand the machination of both BJP and PDP, who played with their emotions and aspirations mere for lust of power.
