SAMBA, July 24: Congress today held a massive protest demonstration over the unprecedented price rise , record unemployment and pre-paid smart meter system, besides seeking restoration of Statehood and holding early Assembly elections in J&K.
There was a minor scuffle with the policemen when the cops forcibly tried to prevent the march from proceeding towards DC office Samba.
A large number of Congress workers including women carrying banners and raising slogans denouncing the pre-paid electric meters system, unprecedented price rise , record unemployment and other anti-poor steps of the Centre Govt and the UT administration moved in the town in the shape of a rally.
Led by DCC president Samba, Sanjeev Sharma, former Minister Yashpal Kundal, working president Babal Gupta and accompanied by SC Department Congress District president Vinod Kumar, District president Mahila wing Congress Anita Devi, ST Cell head Ismile Choudhary, Jagdeep Singh Congress spokesperson, Rajan Sharma, Balram Kundal, ex- Sarpanch Vinay Kumar, Kmair Singh, Mandeep Choudhary took out a massive protest march from Main Chowk Samba towards DC office Samba where Police had a tough time to prevent the march from proceeding ahead.
Former Minister and JKPCC vice-president Yashpal Kundal stated that the party will be staging a massive protest in Samba to expose the BJP Government and raise people’s genuine concerns to the administration. The administration and the Centre keep on making decisions for Jammu and Kashmir’s public without any inputs from the stakeholders or thinking of any of the consequences.
District president Sanjeev Sharma stated that the protest will raise many issues which expose the harsh realities of life in J&K and took stock of the preparations made for the upcoming protest, while underlining its importance. He highlighted the issue of installation of smart meters in Samba, power outages, price-rise, and other such issues which are hampering the daily lives of people.
He said the people are being exploited as taxes in the form of power tariffs, toll taxes, property tax etc and prices soar through the roof. This has been an ongoing issue ever since the advent of BJP, Sharma said.
