JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Dec 19: Congress held strong protests in Jammu and Srinagar cities besides in some other districts seeking resignation and apology of Home Minister Amit Shah over his `remarks’ against Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar in Parliament, the other day.
A strong protest demonstration was held by the Congress party leaders and activists in Jammu today, raising slogans against Home Minister for his alleged insulting language against Bharat Rattan Dr Ambedkar the other day in Parliament, demanding his resignation and public apology.

Large number of protestors including women and youth led by Working presidents Tara Chand and Raman Bhalla alongwith several senior leaders including- Balwan Singh, Ravinder Sharma,Ved Mahajan, Thakur Balbir Singh, Indu Pawar, Hari Singh Chib, Shah Mohd Chaudhary, Manmohan Singh, Shabir Khan, besides others carrying placards in favour of Dr Ambedkar and against Amit Shah, marched towards Residency Road from Shaheedi Chowk.
The police stopped the protestors at Shaheedi Chowk but some youth activists pushed back the police contingent and broke barricading and reached ahead on the Residency road after a minor scuffle with deployed policemen, however, no one injured and later stopped peacefully and held a sit in dharna on the road in front of TRC. They continued raising strong sloganeering aganst Shah demanding his resignation.
Talking to reporters former DyCM, Tara Chand lashed at Amit Shah for insulting Dr Ambedkar and said it speaks out their mentality against Dr Ambedkar and Dalit Samaj. His utterances are highly irresponsible, derogatory and insulting words against Dr Ambedkar, he added.
Raman Bhalla accused Amit Shah of insulting of Dr Ambedkar and hurting the sentiments of countrymen.
Similar protests were held in different districts including Kathua where DCC president Pankaj Dogra led the protest. At Udhampur the protest was led by Sumit Magotra and protestors demanded public apology from HM.
In Srinagar, JKPCC held strong protest and demanded resignation of Home Minister and apology for his disrespectful remarks against Dr Ambedkar.
Srinagar DCC president Irfan Naqib led the protest in Srinagar in which Mahila president Shameema Raina, DCC Pulwama president Umer Jaan, Dr Audil Mir, Mahila District president Nargis and various other leaders participated and tried to march towards M.A. Road, but the heavy contingent of police did not allow them to move out of the office premises.
The protesting workers raised slogan against Home Minister and demanded his resignation and apology for hurting public sentiments.
In Kashmir province District Congress Committee presidents led the protests in their respective districts amid raising slogans against Amit Shah and the BJP for attempting to undermine the Indian Constitution.
