JAMMU, Mar 18: Congress MLA from Inderwal (Kishtwar) and former Minister Ghulam Mohammad Saroori today condemned the controversial remark of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy on mosques and demanded an apology from him.
As the first budget session of Mufti Sayeed Government commenced today, Saroori stood up from Opposition bench in the Assembly and raised the issue when election of the Speaker was about to be conducted.
“Such statement in a country like India is aimed to divide the society and this is a secular country”, he said.
He urged the House to condemn it unanimously.
“I demand an apology from him”, he said.
Saroori was supported by other members of the opposition.
However, the treasury benches didn’t respond and the House went ahead with election of the Speaker.
BJP MLA Ravinder Raina had tiff with Independent MLA Engineer Rashid when he continued to speak on the issue. Raina asked Rashid to take his seat and raise the issue at an appropriate time and not during conduct of the election of the Speaker.
