3 former PCC chiefs to contest

JAMMU, Aug 26: After long deliberations and two rounds of talks with the National Conference leaders over seat sharing at Srinagar, the Congress Party tonight released the list of nine candidates for the first phase of Assembly elections in J&K.

A party spokesman said that out of the 90 seats Congress will contest on 32 seats while one each seat has gone to CPI (M) leader MY Tarigami and Harshdev Singh. On five seats there will be friendly contest, wherein, both the parties will field their candidates.
From Banihal Assembly constituency, former JKPCC chief and two times MLA and once minister Vikar Rasool Wani will contest elections. NC has also fielded its candidates Sajad Shaheen there for friendly contest.
From Bhaderwah segment Nadeem Sharief Niaz will be the Congress candidate. He is DDC member and son of former minister Mohd Sharief Niaz.
On this seat also there will be friendly contest as NC has also fielded its candidate, a former bureaucrat, Mehboob Iqbal.
On Doda West seat Congress has fielded a new candidate Dr Pardeep Kumar Bhagat while from Doda East Sheikh Riaz Ahmed, a new candidate.
From Doda East the NC has also fielded its candidate a former MLA/minister Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy. From Inderwal Sheikh Zaffraulla will be the Congress candidate.
Former JKPCC chief and AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir is the party candidate from Dooru Assembly constituency. Surinder Singh Channi will contest from Tral and former PCC chief Peerzada Mohd Syed from Anantnag (Kokernag) Constituency. One seat of Kulgam in South Kashmir has gone to Mohd Yousuf Tarigami.
