JAMMU, Nov 19: Rich tribute were paid to Indira Gandhi former Prime Minister of India, on her 106th birth anniversary today. Congress organized several functions across the State to celebrate the day.

An impressive function was held at Indira Chowk Jammu where floral tribute were paid by garlanding the statue of Indira Gandhi by the PCC president Vikar Rasool Wani, working president Raman Bhalla, senior Vice presidents Balwan Singh, vice president Yogesh Sawhney, Ved Mahajan, Hari Singh Chib, Rajnish Sharma besides PCC general secretaries, secretaries, frontal organizations heads, DCC, BCC functionaries and others.
The function was organized by the District Congress Jammu Urban led by Manmohan Singh.
Interacting with the media persons at Indira Chowk PCC Chief Vikar Rasool Wani recalled the bold leadership of Indira Gandhi, as she led the nation to great heights in the world and took courageous decisions in her life for the might of the nation. India progressed on all fronts and faced numerous challenges successfully. He lashed out at those forces who are trying to belittle the role and great works of top stalwarts of Congress especially Nehru-Gandhi leadership for political vested interests. He said BJP regime is making every effort to distort the historical facts to divert the attention of the nation from contribution of Congress and its great leaders.
Wani said that people of Jammu and Kashmir will not forgive BJP for its historical blunder of disbanding a full fledged state Jammu and Kashmir and downgraded it to UT. The people have been deprived of their powers and rights in an arbitrary and undemocratic manner, he added.
Raman Bhalla while paying rich tribute to Indira Gandhi former Prime Minister of India, on her 106th Birth Anniversary, said that Indira Gandhi was one of the strongest leaders of the world so far and will always go down in the history of the world as the iron lady of India. She led the country to new heights in every sphere and enhanced the image of the country worldwide.
Senior leaders Balwan Singh, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, TS Bajwa, Ved Mahajan, Hari Singh Chib, Rajnish Sharma, Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manmohan Singh while addressing described Late Indira as leader of firm determination and great courage who took revolutionary steps during her leadership of the Country and sacrificed her life for the unity and integrity of the Country.
District Congress Committee, Srinagar also paid floral tribute to Late Gandhi on her 106 birth anniversary at Srinagar Party headquarters.
PCC functionaries and other Congress leaders including frontal organizations led by DCC president Imtiyaz Khan participated in the function The speakers highlighted the great achievements and services rendered by Gandhi to the Nation, saying that she was known for her vision and courage. She left no stone unturned to make India a powerful Nation be it the economic fronts, education, defence, communication and inclusive development of the people particularly poor and downtrodden.
The supreme sacrifices of Gandhi’s family for the Nation is bound to inspire generations, they added and said those questioning the sacrifices of Gandhi’s family are not familiar with the Indian history, which is witness to the sacrifices and service of Nehru Gandhi family towards the Nation.
North Assembly Constituency leaders led by Th Hari Singh Chib (VP), Uday Bhanu (former PYC chief), Anirudh Sawhney (PYC gen secy) and others honoured women of the area with Indira Priyadarshni Awards to mark the birth anniversary of Late India Gandhi.
