REASI, Nov 29: A Sarpanch, affiliated to Congress party and close aide of a Minister was arrested today for illegally carrying a large quantity of liquor and huge cash for alleged distribution of the same among people to influence voters.
The Sarpanch, identified as Baldev Singh, son of Ram Krishan of Kani Khet, was arrested by Police from Kani Khet area under the jurisdiction of Arnas Police Station. Rs 2 lakh cash and 19 bottles of country made foreign liquor were seized from his possession.
These items were being carried by the accused in a hired Mahindra vehicle, registration number JK19-1128. Police has seized the vehicle and also arrested its driver. A case FIR number 94 under section 48 of the Excise Act has been registered against the accused, said SHO Arnas Ranjit Singh Rao.
The matter has also been brought into the notice of election authorities.
