JAMMU, Mar 31: District Congress Committee Jammu (U) today held a massive protest against the excessive price rise of petrol, diesel and cooking gas (LPG) under the BJP Government, on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway at Digiana today.
The protest was led by JKPCC working president Raman Bhalla and former minister J&K and District president Jammu (Urban), Yogesh Sawhney. Under the `Mehngai Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan of the Congress party, protests were held across the country by various units of the party. The protest at Digiana was organised by Dwarka Choudhary, Councillor JMC. The protesters were raising slogans against Modi Govt and carrying placards with slogans.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhalla said that petrol and diesel prices on Thursday hiked by 80 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in the last 10 days to Rs 6.40 per litre. This is the 9th increase in prices after completion of UP elections, since March 22. Bhalla demanded that the rising prices of petrol and diesel be brought under control as the rising prices directly affect the poor and the middle-class people
Former minister Yogesh Sawhney asserted that people are suffering because of the sharp rise in prices of diesel, petrol and LPG. He said the BJP government must stop this loot. “We demand that the Government should control the fuel prices within a bracket that is affordable by the people of the country.
Prominent among others accompanying included Dwarka Choudhary, Satish Sharma, Pawan Dev Singh, Atul Sharma, Chander Shekhar Sharma, Baldev Singh Wazir and Balbir Singh.
Meanwhile, District Kathua unit of Congress party also held similar protest in DC office complex Kathua against price hike of petrol and diesel.
