The controversy on the special status resolution deepened after Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, during a rally in Pune, declared that his party did not support restoring Article 370.
Karra later endorsed Kharge’s statement, clarifying that Article 370 was not referenced in the resolution. However, the remarks created a wedge between Congress and the National Conference, straining the coalition partnership.
On the recent indictment of Indian industrialist Gautam Adani by a US court on charges of bribery and fraud, Karra demanded the formation of a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the allegations.
“The US’s findings deserve a comprehensive investigation by a JPC to uncover the officials and politicians involved. I am not accusing any individual, but a JPC will clarify who is responsible,” Karra said.
The JKPCC chief alleged that Adani might have bribed Government officials and politicians across various States, including Jammu and Kashmir, to push for costly solar energy projects.
“Adani promised Americans the dream of renewable energy, securing an investment of Rs. 25,000 crore. But when that energy was sold to Indian States, it was so expensive that many refused to buy it, including Jammu and Kashmir during the 2020-2022 Presidential Rule. investigation should be conducted on that as well,” he said.
Karra further accused Adani of attempting to dominate India’s economy. “Rahul Gandhi has consistently spoken about the Adani-BJP nexus. Today’s US report reveals that Adani offered bribes worth Rs 2, 2000 crore to politicians and bureaucrats. This is a clear attempt to cripple the economy by monopolizing both public and private sectors,” he said.
