*Accuses Govt of failure to take timely steps

SRINAGAR, May 5: JKPCC senior leaders discussed the COVID situation in the wake of rising graph of covid cases and casualties amidst continued shortages and shortcomings in the health infrastructures and facilities in Jammu and Kashmir and urged the Central Government and the UT Administration to step up efforts to further augment the facilities and speed up vaccination.
JKPCC president, GA Mir held a zoom meeting from Srinagar with Senior leaders from Jammu and Kashmir regions, to take stock of the COVID situation in both regions including the shortcomings as well as shortages being witnessed, adding to the sufferings and casualties of the affected people besides the government measures and efforts to deal with the situation.
Former PCC president Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, general secretaries Balwan Singh (Ex MLA),Yogesh Sawhney,Ex- Minister) Mohammad Amin Bhat (Ex-MLA), S S Channi, Co-Treasurer Rajnish Sharma, PYC president Udey Chib and Suresh Dogra, OBC Chairman were prominent participants in the deliberations.
The meeting discussed the overall situation on the covid front and expressed grave concern and shock over the increased casualties and covid infections being witnessed in the ongoing second wave, as compared to the first wave and felt that it is because of the lack of preparedness on the part of the Central Government and the UT administration that has led to grim situation. The meeting also expressed concern over media reports about the non utilisation of the several ventilators etc due to shortage of technical manpower as well as required no of trained staff in several hospitals.
The Congress held both the Centre Government and UT Administration squarely responsible for their blatant negligence in upgrading the health infrastructure and the facilities within available time, to deal with the anticipated second wave, which has been resulting in to multiplication of the sufferings to the people besides increased rate of casualties. Had timely steps been taken at various levels, the sufferings of people as well as casualties could have been reduced, they felt. They also highlighted the more percentage of casualties in Jammu as compared to Kashmir and attributed it to the weak health and medicare facilities in Jammu region as compared to Kashmir, which is very unfortunate.
Lending full cooperation to the administration to prevent and control the situation and supplement efforts to minimise the sufferings to the people, PCC leaders urged the administration to step up testing facility especially the RT-PCR facilities in Urban and Rural areas, arrange for adequate quantity of vaccine to carry- out vaccination of all eligible age groups, on war footings at the door steps, set up fully equipped quarantine centres in each block for those who can’t afford home isolation.
