NEW DELHI : Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today assured students of NIT Srinagar that he would raise the issue of their safety and security on the campus with the Government .
During his meeting with students of the NIT Srinagar and their parents, who met him to express concern over their safety on the campus, Mr Gandhi assured them that the party will raise their concerns over campus safety with the Government.
”Met students and parents from NIT Srinagar who expressed concern over the safety and security of students on campus. I assured them that the Congress would raise their concerns and put pressure on the government to resolve the matter ,” he said in a tweet.
The NIT campus recently witnessed clashes between Kashmiri and non-Kashmiri students after the local students celebrated West Indies’ win over the Indian cricket team in the world T-20 semi final match on March 31. Following the clashes , which led to suspension of classes, many non-Kashmiri students also refused to appear for their exams and sought migration from the institute. (UNI)
