SAMBA, May 11: Vehicular traffic on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway was today blocked at Vijaypur by the Congress party workers demanding restoration of AIIMS to Jammu region.
The protesters led by Congress general secretary and former minister Manjit Singh assembled in the town and took out a protest rally in Vijaypur against the coalition Government for its failure to redress concerns of the Jammu division. Amid sloganeering, the protesters blocked the highway for half an hour expressing anger against the BJP for befooling people of Jammu on the issue of AIIMS.
Addressing the protesting Congress activities, the former minister alleged that AIIMS was sanctioned for Jammu but it was not given to the division because of BJP’s “negligence and arrogance”.
“Union Government had announced AIIMS for Jammu but Chief Minister in presence BJP legislators and ministers stated that the prestigious hospital was given to Srinagar not to Jammu,” he said, adding that the BJP kept mum over the issue even as PDP preferred giving it to Srinagar neglecting Jammu.
It shows that BJP was allegedly involved in the conspiracy of snatching AIIMS from Jammu and handing it over to Kashmir for power.
Terming the “new employment policy” as anti-youth, Congress leader  demanded that the Government should withdraw the policy in the interest of the unemployed youth. He said that the recruitment should be done as per proper procedure though recruitment agencies like SSRB and PSC.
Referring to damage caused to crop in heavy rains in the border belt, he said, the Government remained unconcerned regarding damage to the crops of the farmers. The Government turned blind eyes towards them. He said that a bund got damaged in Ramgarh due to flash floods but the present MLA and even the earlier MLA of NC had no concern over the suffering of the people.
The Congress leader presented a memorandum with demands to the Government though SDM Vijaypur before calling off  protest demonstration.
