Cong workers stage dharnas across J&K

JAMMU/ SRINAGAR, Dec 19: Thousands of Congress activists along with senior leaders of the party held peaceful dharnas across the State including State and district headquarters of the party to express solidarity with the Congress high command and lodge protest over the policing of political vendata of BJP against the Congress leadership and Opposition in the country.
At Jammu, hundreds of Congress workers assembled outside the PCC headquarters at Shahidi Chowk Jammu and held a sit in dharna which was led by PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir and joined by senior functionaries of PCC, legislators, former Ministers and most of the prominent leaders besides frontal organizations like Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and INTUC and District Congress Committee.
The leaders and workers raised slogans in favour of Congress party and the leadership of AICC president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi. They also criticized the policies and programmes of the Modi Government and BJP, accusing it of indulging the political Vendata against the leadership of Congress.
At district headquarters across the State, similar gatherings and dharnas were held with District presidents and prominent leaders of the party joining the peaceful dharnas expressing solidarity  with Congress leadership in the country and opposing the policies of the BJP and Modi Government.
At Srinagar headquarters also similar protest dharna was held where large number of workers assembled alongwith senior leaders of PCC and held a strong show of solidarity in favour of Congress president  Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, while at district headquarters in Kashmir, Leh and Kargil also similar peaceful dharnas were held by the District Congress leaders and prominent workers joining the gathering to show solidarity with Congress high command.
Addressing the gathering PCC chief Ghulam Ahmed Mir accused the BJP & Modi Government of indulging in false and malicious propaganda against the Congress leadership in the country with a view to malign the image of the Congress Party. He criticized the political Vendata of the BJP and said that the entire rank & file of the Congress party is solidly behind the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to fight against the wrong policies of the Modi Government.
Mir said that Congress Party and its leadership has faced many situations during 130 years of its history and it would continue to serve the interests of each and every section of society in the best possible manner, undeterred by the tactics of the forces who are opposed to the secular and progressive policies and programmes of the Congress party and its leadership.
Prominent among those present during protest dharna in Jammu included Ex-DyCM Tara Chand, Madan Lal Sharma (Ex-MP), Sham Lal Sharma, Mohd Sharief Niaz, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Raman Bhalla, Mula Ram and  Jugal Kishore-all former Ministers; Aijaz Ahmed Khan-MLA, Asgar Ali-MLA, Ghulam Nabi Monga-MLC, Rani Gargi Billoria-MLC, Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Shiv Kumar-INTUC, Indu Pawar-Mahila Cong, Pranav Shagotra-PYC, BS Sambyal, Vikram Malhotra, Manmohan Singh and others.
At Kishtwar, protest dharna was led by MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohd Saroori and Shamsher Singh Bhandari Sr-leader at the party against the NDA Govt’s vindicative policies, while ex-Minister Abdul Majid Wani and MLC Naresh Gupta were leading protest dharna at Doda. At Rajouri ex-Minister Shabir Khan and Sain Rashid (Distt chief)  were leading the protest while in Kathua former Minister Dr Manohar Lal and district president Subash Gupta were spearheading the protest. Reports of similar protests have been received from various other parts of the State.
