Cong working for women’s empowerment: Pawar

JAMMU, Oct 27: Pradesh Mahila Congress president Indu Pawar (MLA) today said that Congress Party was working for the empowerment of women.
Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Digiana here today, Mrs Pawar said that AICC president Sonia Gandhi is striving for the welfare and empowerment of Congress Party. She asked the women activists of the party to remain united and work hard for the betterment of women in their respective areas. She said that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have assured 50% reservation to the women in legislature and they are working for it. Therefore, the women should come forward in large number and take part in the active politics.
She further claimed that Congress party is emerging stronger in the State under the leadership of Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz and in-charge J&K affairs of the party Ambika Soni. The MLA expressed concern over the unprovoked border firing from Pakistani side and maintained that Government was aware of the problems being faced by the people of this entire border belt.
AICC secretary, Mr Haq who was the special invitee to the function stressed for the empowerment of women and maintained that Congress leadership was working towards this direction. He appealed the women to strengthen the party. He also impressed upon for the unity among the Congress activists.
Senior party leader S Gumukh Singh, Manmohan Singh and Zahida Khan also addressed the gathering.
