JAMMU, Jan 30: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has registered its protest over post-election change of reservation roster for women and SCs/STs for the chairpersons of DDCs written to the State Election Commission.
In its representation to the State Election Commission (Election Authority under the J&K Panchayat Raj Act), the JKPCC objected the notification of Election Commission dated January 25 regarding change of roster of reservations and described it as contrary to the mandate of the Constitution and spirit and provisions of the 73rd amendment as well as the State Panchayat Raj Act and the relevant rules.
“The whole exercise to change the roster system and criteria of reservation post elections would deprive several eligible elected DDC Members from contesting for DDC Chairpersons, besides denying the adequate and due representation to the women and SC & STs in the districts, they deserve as per the mandate of law,” Congress said in its representation.
The party urged the State Election Commission to reconsider and recall the notification and also sought personal hearing to advance further arguments in this regard.
