Congress celebrates 138th Foundation Day, launches BJY awareness prog from Verinag

JAMMU, Dec 28: Congress Party celebrated its 138th Foundation Day today by recalling the great contributions and services rendered by the Party to the Nation in pre- and post-Independence era thereby taking its prestige to the heights in respect of defense, economy, education inclusive development, besides securing communal harmony in the country.
The Party also launched Bharat Jodo Yatra (BJY) awareness programme from Omoh Verinag in South Kashmir, declaring that the Yatra is scheduled to enter J&K on 22 January and shall conclude by 30th January while expressing confidence that the Yatra will be very successful given its significance and the Party’s commitment to defeat the hate and divisive politics in the Country.

Addressing a largely attended workers’ meeting which was organized to mark 138th Foundation Day at Omoh Verinag, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani highlighted the sacrifices and the contributions of the Congress Party towards Nation building and said it was the Congress Party alone which has built the Nation while working tirelessly for the development of people of all shades without any discrimination.
Earlier, he hoisted the Party flag at Srinagar Party Office and extended greetings to party workers on 138th Congress Party’s foundation Day. Wani also reviewed the preparations for the upcoming Bharat Jodo Yatra and urged Party cadres to work hard to make the Yatra successful. Similar workers’ meeting was held at Achabal in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district to mark 138th Foundation Day of the Party.
Addressing the Party workers, former JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir termed Congress Party a formidable force to reckon with saying that it will continue to serve the Nation despite malicious propaganda and the challenges. Among others who addressed included DCC president Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Altaf Malik, Bashir Ahmad Khan, Abdul Rashid Dar (Sangrama) Nazir Ahmad Lone, Amir Khan and various other Party leaders.
In Jammu, an impressive function was held at PCC Headquarter Shaheedi Chowk to celebrate Foundation Day of the Party. Working president Raman Bhalla hoisted the Party flag in the presence of CWC Member Tariq Hameed Karra (Ex-MP) and other senior leaders. National Anthem was sung by all Congress leaders and workers present on the occasion.
The function was attended by functionaries of PCC, DCC, Block, Frontal Wings, Corporators and others. Prominent among them include former minister Mula Ram, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, Kanta Bhan, Yogesh Sawhney (Incharge, DCC Jammu Urban), Jahangir Mir, Th Manmohan Singh, Shah Nawaz Choudhari, Gurbachan Kumari Rana, Ved Mahaja and Hari Singh Chib.
Addressing the gathering, Raman Bhalla said that Congress has history of struggle and sacrifices of 138 years for the freedom of the country and for the unity, integrity and diversity. He marked the occasion by highlighting his party’s pledge for “truth and equality” and said that “Congress has been committed from the beginning to raise the voice of the nation”.
Speaking on the occasion, Tariq Hameed Karra said that Congress Party represents the idea of India which means unity in diversity. He said Rahul Gandhi is leading the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the Country for the very purpose of defeating the challenge posed by the divisive philosophy and forces who are dividing the country and communities and weakening the nation.
Meanwhile, Congress Seva Dal also hoisted the Party flag in Jammu to celebrate Founfation Day of the Party. The programme was presided over by Congress Seva Dal president Vijay Sharma.
