JAMMU, Apr 11: Expressing concern over the losses caused to wheat, vegetable and fruit crops in the face of continuous rain and hailstorm, former MP and senior Congress leader Janak Raj Gupta today demanded immediate compensation for the affected farmers and orchardists.
Gupta along with other leaders conducted an assessment tour of various border villages including Kotha Mian Fateh, Miran Sahib, Kotli Balwan Singh, Sai, Bhalesar, Rathema, Arnia, Pind Sarochan, Devi Garh, Gadhi, Deoli and Lang, to assess the losses to various Rabi and fruit crops and interacted with the farmers.
“There should be immediate assessment of losses suffered by the farmers on account of the recent unexpected rains,” Gupta said in a statement issued today. “The Government must depute an expert team to assess the losses” he added.
