Congress Minister Sham Lal quits, submits resignation to JKPCC chief

JAMMU, Oct 24:
Senior Congress leader and Minister for PHE, Flood Control and Irrigation Sham Lal Sharma  today resigned from his ministry and submitted resignation to the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) president  Saif-ud-Din Soz.
“Mr Sharma late this evening resigned from Omar Abdullah’s cabinet and submitted his resignation to Prof Soz at Srinagar,” sources said.
They said that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was not in Srinagar, so Mr Sharma handed over his resignation to the party president.
“Though it is a matter between the Minister, Chief Minister and the Governor, but I am the party president, so he submitted the resignation to me,” Prof Soz said. Refusing to reveal the reasons, Prof Soz said that he is looking into the matter.
However, according to sources, the Minister had resigned from the party over the issue of regularisation of PHE daily wagers.
“The Minister was demanding regularisation of PHE daily wagers, for which the cabinet sub-committee was also formed but despite that, no action was taken,” sources said and added that on this ground, Mr Sharma resigned this evening from the Ministry.
Mr Sharma will be arriving in Jammu tomorrow. (AGENCIES)
