Congress, NC celebrate victory, take out processions

JAMMU, Dec 6: The victory rallies were taken out by the activists of Congress and National Conference (NC) across the State as the coalition emerged victorious in the MLC elections under Panchayat quota the results of which were declared here this afternoon.
The ruling National Conference (NC) -Congress coalition has swept the Legislative Council polls by winning two seats each in Jammu and Kashmir.
Amid victory slogans and dancing to the beats of ‘dhol’, the NC workers took out rally from outside the Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, which culminated at the Chief Minister’s official residence.
They also greeted each other.
“It is a peoples win,” Surinder Singh Bunty, Youth National Conference Provincial President said while addressing the rally.
Mr Bunty said the clean sweep has cleared that the Government is working for the welfare of the people at grass root level.
Meanwhile, Congress activists also took out a rally, which concluded outside the JKPCC office here.
Workers and senior party leaders garlanded the victorious candidate Sham Lal.
Tight security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward incident in the rallies.
Congress Party, while celebrating the victory of all the four coalition candidates thanked the electorate for reposing faith and trust in coalition.
Soon after the results were declared for the four MLC seats in the State, the prominent leaders of the Party along with workers assembled at PCC headquarters at Shaheedi Chowk here and took out a victory procession.
The leaders of the  Party while addressing the gathering thanked the Panchyat representatives in the State for their overwhelming support to the coalition candidates. They described it a victory of democracy, policies and programmes for the people especially for the empowerment of Panchayati Raj Institutions in the State.
They congratulated the newly elected MLCs of Congress and NC. The senior Congress leaders and Ministers who addressed the rally included Dharam Paul Sharma, ex MP, Ministers Raman Bhalla and Sham Lal Sharma,  senior leaders S Gurmukh Singh, Bashir Naaz, Kuldeep Raj Verma, MLAs Indu Pawar, G M Saroori, Krishan Chander Bhagat and Subash Bhagat and Naresh Gupta MLCs , ex Minister Lal Mohammed Sabir and others.
A function was organized by District Congress Committee Kishtwar to celebrate the victory of coalition candidates. The Congress activists who took out a procession in the town danced to the beating of drums.
Addressing the rally Jugal Bhandari secretary PCC said that victory of coalition candidates is the victory of secular forces.
Meanwhile on successful election of the MLCs under Panchayati quota, Eshfaq Ur Rehman Poswal, President Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasabha, J&K, said, that success of coalition was because of efforts of the people of tribal areas.
In a statement issued here today he said that with the threat from the anti national & separatist groups no one was ready to cast the vote but these were the people of the Tribal areas who came forward, as before, to cast their votes to ensure the victory of the coalition.
