Congress protests against power curtailment

UDHAMPUR, June 1: Up in arms against heavy curtailment of electricity in Udhampur, Working President of District Congress Committee, Sumeet Magotra organized a protest rally, here today.
The protest rally took off from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park Udhampur and reached at office of Electrical Department. Protesters were raising slogans against J&K UT Administration and Power Development Department.
JKPCC General Secretary and Incharge Udhampur District, Balbir Singh was also among the protesters. As XEn PDD was not present in the office, protesters staged a dharna in premises of the department and raised slogans.
While addressing the gathering, Sumeet Magotra said that Udhampur District was paying maximum revenue but facing heavy curtailment of electricity in this hot summer. He further alleged that after the installation of Smart meters public was getting inflated bills.
PCC General Secretary Balbir Singh expressed that if Government was unable to provide essential services to the people, it should step down.
As the protesters forcibly locked the office of Xen, SHO Udhampur and Tehsildar Udhampur immediately rushed to the spot. AEE PDD assured the Congress leaders that the curtailment will be stopped within five days.
