JAMMU, Aug 30: Congress workers here today staged two protest demonstrations which were led by its Observers Vinod Sharma and Michael Wazir at Trikuta Nagar and New Shanti Nagar respectively against the installation of smart meters and many other burning problems of the people.
The protesters raised slogans against the Central Government and LG Administration for installing smart meters.
They said that they are already struggling against high inflation, unemployment etc.
Addressing the protesters, Vinod Sharma said despite abundant power resources in J&K, poor people are made to suffer by the wrong attitude of LG Administration.
“This is our electricity and we have first right over it. Moreover majority of the people in this region are not able to afford exorbitant bills generated by smart meters,” Sharma said.
Michael Wazir said that J&K Government has been facing criticism for its drive to install smart meters across the region and emphasized that they should reverse the decision of installing these meters.
He further said that people are eagerly waiting for the ULB, Assembly and Lok Sabha elections to give a befitting reply to BJP for imposing Property Tax, installing of smart meters, toll plazas etc.
S.S Dutt, Pritam Singh, JMC Councillor, Banarsi Dass, Dr. Vijay Sharma and others were also present in the protest.
