VKS for updation of migrants’ data

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Apr 4: Vishwa Kashmiri Samaj (VKS) has expressed the hope that Government will address all the issues and problems of the Kashmiri Pandit community living in exile for last 34 years.
Addressing a press conference here, today VKS convener, Kiran Wattal urged the Government to constitute a committee under the supervision of serving /retired Supreme Court Judge to probe the circumstances that led to the genocide of the KPs from the Valley and bring the killers of minority Hindus to book.
He also appealed the Lt. Governor for conducting on sport recruitment drive for displaced Pandit youth in police and stressed on constitution of an Apex Representative Committee from migrants of all districts of Kashmir.
While briefing the press Pintoo Ji appealed the Government and Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner, Migrants for general amnesty and for opening a window for updation and rectification of personal records in the official data and in migrant data forms/ ration cards etc.
He said that over the years small anomalies have crept in the personal data of the migrant families registered with the Relief Organization, because of which many migrants are facing lot of issues such as opening/operating bank accounts, availing of various online services etc.
It has so happened because at the time of migration, the Registration process was not that well-organized, records were not digitized and the concept of the online services was not there.
But with digitization of records and digital services in place, small anomalies like nicknames having been recorded in the ration cards, instead of the official name, are causing serious hardship to the migrants. Besides, it is to be appreciated that over the years many subsequent changes in the data like address and contact numbers are also required to be updated. As ration card/ Adhaar card is one of the primary documents of identity of the citizens, it is imperative to update the database of the Relief Organization, in line with the present status of the migrant families.
Amnesty regarding correction in records of category and minor mistakes to provide individuals in general and all migrants in particular with a chance to rectify their past errors and move forward and this way the record for future would also be made straight, he said and appealed the concerned authorities to initiate a process in this direction.
