JAMMU, July 31: Mirpur Balidan Bhawan Samiti (MBBS), New Delhi, has urged upon the Lt Governor, Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to constitute Displaced Persons Relief / Welfare Board for the displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
In a letter flashed to the Lt Governor of the J&K UT, Girish Chandra Murmu , general secretary of the Samiti , Madan Mohan Gupta has issued a fresh appeal to the State Administration to set up a Relief/ Welfare Board for the DPs from Pak occupied Jammu & Kashmir settled in J&K and outside, as recommended by various Commissions framed by the previous Governments from 1947 onwards.
Gupta further demanded that the Board should have its headquarters at Jammu and branch offices in various states, where the displaced families are presently settled. “Such Boards many consider the matter of DPs of 1947 (PoJK) pertaining to their settlement, employment, immovable properties left behind in PoJK, education, welfare, regularization and ownership rights of properties presently in their occupation, compensation and other similar matters,” he maintained.
MM Gupta claimed that Samiti which was registered in Delhi in 1971, has clear aims and objectives to look after the welfare of the displaced persons from Mirpur (PoJK). He said the residents of Mirpur including Hindus and Sikhs were displaced during October-November 1947 after attack by Pakistani army and Kawailis in the areas like Mirpur, Kotli, Bhimber etc. Thousands of Hindus and Sikhs were brutally murdered by the Pak raiders while thousands of escaped to Jammu and other areas.
From time to time Government constituted several committees/commissioners like Wadhwa Commission, Joint Parliamentary Standing Committee and so on. They gave many recommendations and also suggested to frame Welfare Board for these people. Over 73 years have passed but the Government has failed to frame such Relief/ Welfare Board for them. Many families have shifted from Jammu and Kashmir to other parts of the country. The Government must ease the system of providing Domicile certificates to them. Gupta expressed hope that present J&K administration under G C Murmu would constitute a Welfare Board for the DPs of PoJK.
