JAMMU, May 16: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief spokesperson and former MLC, Ravinder Sharma has urged upon the Govt to ensure adequate facilities to the border migrants in the camps at Nowshera and take up the constructions of bunkers in their localities on war footing to make their return possible in near future.
Sharma said that the border residents of Nowshera area had to repeatedly suffer and migrate time and again in view of the continued ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops. He said that Pak violated the cease- fire during the past three years for more than 1345 times, as a result the civilian population was badly hit besides suffering casualties.
He said last year also, the Govt reiterated its promise to construct bunkers in border areas of Nowshera during the visit of Dy Chief Minister. Every time when the incidents of heavy shelling takes place, the Govt assures bunkers and plots/shelters in safe zones but promises are made to be forgotten. He said no facilities were upgraded including lack of ambulance services in these border areas.
The Congress leader said that two ministers of the Govt visited the migrants at Nowshera on Monday but within a gap of two hours, which shows the lack of coordination in the Govt about this sensitive issue. He said only lip service would not serve the purpose but the Govt should ensure adequate facilities to them in the camps as the women folk, small kids and aged persons are facing great hardships.
Although the district and local administration is cooperating with the people but Govt must rush the required items/material to make their stay comfortable in this intense heat.
Sharma also appreciated the civil society of Nowshera for extending their cooperation to the migrants to meet the shortfalls. He along with prominent citizens Jagdish Sawhney, Ashok Sharma, Sumit Singh, Amit Kumar, Gourav Sharma and Sat Pal Sharma visited the migrant camp Nowshera and took stock of the problem of people putting in the camp.
