JAMMU, Dec 2: Police have detained two Personal Security Officers (PSOs) of contractor and Khyber cement owner Zaffar Ahmad Trambu and his son Haafiz Trambu from their residence at Sector 7 in Channi Himmat after they allegedly themselves opened firing and claimed before police that some unidentified gunmen had fired at the house.
“The PSOs were reported to have hatched the drama of firing allegedly at the behest of the contractor to gain more security”, police sources said.
They added that Channi Himmat police station received a call from the house of Trambu at around 1 am in the night claiming that unidentified gunmen had opened firing on their house prompting the PSOs to retaliate.
Police parties rushed to the spot and conducted searches in the area. There were no traces of any undesirable movement in the area, police said, adding that in the morning ballistic and forensic experts reached the spot and verified recovery of bullets from all angles.
“No angle could be made out which showed that the bullets had been fired at the house from outside. Instead, all angles showed that the firing had been done from roof top of the house”, sources said.
They added that the PSOs have claimed that the firing was done from outside the house with pistols. However, the bullets found in the house were that of AK-47s, which were in possession of the PSOs of Trambu, who have been identified as Ashiq Hussain and Riaz Ahmad, both from Budgam Police.
Sources said the Channi Himmat police station have detained the PSOs and were subjecting them to sustained interrogation to ascertain reasons behind the firing and the persons at whose behest they had opened the firing creating panic in the area and also trying to make their own firing into a militancy related case.
A FIR has been registered at Channi Himmat police station under Section 307 and 3/25 Arms Act for further investigations. Police said Zaffar Ahmad Trambu and Haafiz Trambu could also be quizzed in connection with investigations of the case.
Sources said the PSOs were detained as ballistic experts after examining the spot this morning confirmed that no bullet had been fired from outside the house. Moreover, the PSOs of Trambus had claimed that firing was done by the pistols but only AK-47 rounds were found at the spot.
“The investigations showed that the firing had been done from inside the house and not outside”, sources said. They added that arrests could be made only after investigations were completed in the case.
Only yesterday, Haafiz Trambu had displayed the weapon during contract of the FCI in Trikuta Nagar area, police said, adding the weapon belonged to one of his PSOs. This case was under investigation at Trikuta Nagar police station.
