JAMMU, Nov 4: After ceasing supply of patient diet for a whole day yesterday in Government Medical College Hospital (GMCH) and its associated hospitals in this winter capital of the State, the supply was again started as usual from this morning by the contractors after they were assured of early release of their pending payment of about Rs 1.6 crore, by the hospital administration.
Acting on the ultimatum given by them to hospital administration, the contractors yesterday stopped supply of diet not only in GMCH, SMGS, CD Hospital, PSY Hospital but also in Gandhi Nagar and Sarwal Hospitals.
The patients, particularly poor and those belonging to far flung areas who were undergoing treatment in these hospitals, unaware of the matter kept waiting for their meals but nobody came to supply them the same.
Those who could afford, purchased their meals from the hospital canteen while the poor had to remain without food for the whole day.
However, acting swiftly the hospital administration held a meeting yesterday evening with the contractors and managed to convince them for the supply of diet.
According to Principal, GMCH, Dr Ghanshyam Dev, the contractors started the supply from this morning, after we assured them that as soon as the Civil Secretariat starts functioning in Jammu, the request for release of funds to clear their liabilities would be forwarded to the Government.
