JAMMU, Apr 23: On 69th day of their ongoing hunger strike for regularization of their service, the Contractual Lecturers (10 + 2), took out a protest march towards the Chief Minister’s residence, here today.
However, Police did not allow them to proceed further when the protest march reached near Vivekananda Chowk following which the Contractual Lecturers staged a dharna on the road for more than half an hour.
Shouting slogans against the State Government and in support of their demands, the protesting Contractual Lecturers vowed to continue their struggle till their demand for regularization is conceded.
The protesting Contractual Lecturers are demanding regularization of their service as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act.2010, a policy framed for the regularization of all the Ad-hoc/Contractual/ Consolidated employees after rendering seven years of services.
The protest march and dharna were also joined by Karnail Chand (president of Kranti Dal), Pawan Baru, C D Jamwal and Seva Ram of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh , Ved Gandlora, Kulwant Singh, Pritam Sharma of Kranti Dal, Vijay Kumar and others representing different social organizations.
While addressing the protest dharna, Arun Bakshi, State president of Contractual Lecturers (10 +2) Association, said that the apathetic attitude of the Government towards them was showing disregard of the establishment towards the teaching communities
He further alleged that the State Government has no time even to listen to their grievance and genuine demands while on the other hand, stone pelters and anti-nationals in Kashmir valley were being offered jobs. He also appealed the Chief Minister to spare only two minutes time to hear and address the grievances of 10+2 Contractual Lecturers.
The protest dharna was also addressed by Balvinder Kour, Jeevan Kumar and others.
Earlier, Bhushan Sharma, Sanjay Kumar, Ranjan Bala and Kanchan Bala began their chain hunger strike this morning at the Exhibition Ground near Press Club Jammu.
