KATHUA: Minister of Forest, Environment and Ecology Ch Lal Singh today called upon the state youth to contribute towards preservation of local heritage and culture as it would help to keep alive the diversity of the state.
The Minister was addressing students during a function held in connection with 68th Republic day celebrations at government middle school Chack Desa Singh.
The function, attended by a large number of students drawn from adjoining schools, started with Flag-hoisting ceremony by the Minister who also took salute from march past contingents of school children.
A cultural programme on patriotic theme was also presented by school students featuring solo and group performances by enthusiastic students.
The Minister also threw light on the importance of Republic-Day and highlighted the sacrifices of great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, Chander Shekhar Azad, Subash Chander Bose, Rajguru, sukhdev in attaining freedom for the country. He said Constitution of India has provisioned equal opportunities for every section of society with special focus on the emancipation of downtrodden and deprived classes.
The Minister hailed the students for showing such a great spirit of participation. He asked the students to showcase the local folk, art and culture at every platform to keep it alive for coming generation. He said Jammu and Kashmir State has diverse culture, traditions and customs which need to be preserved to keep alive its identity. He said students can play a vital role to revive the glorious heritage and culture of their respective areas.
Later the Minister also visited Government College for women and attended district cultural festival 2017 oragnised by Nehru Yuva Kendra.
The minister also gave away prizes among best performers.
ADC Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan, ACR Kathua Jitendra Mishra, DySP Daljeet Singh, and other guests were present on the occasion.
