JAMMU, Nov 20: As part of the ongoing celebrations of 61st Cooperative Week, a function was organized in the premises of Jammu Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB) at Sehkari Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, here today.
The celebrations commenced with the unfurling of cooperative flag by the secretary to Government, Cooperatives Department, R K Koul, who was chief guest on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Koul said that the main purpose of celebrating the Cooperative Week is to highlight achievements of the Cooperative sector in various areas, reflecting upon the shortcomings and chalk- out future strategies of growth.
Dwelling on the theme of this year’s Cooperative Week which is “Cooperative Model for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”, he said that the Cooperative Model is participatory and community oriented and due to its grass roots approach, the impact of its development is equitable and sustainable. Referring to centenary celebrations of the Jammu Central Cooperative Bank (JCCB), Mr Koul said that the Cooperative Credit Institutions in the country are playing an important role in inclusive growth as they are providing credit to the poor at low rates of interest so as to save them from the clutches of money lenders.
Speaking on the occasion, Registrar Cooperatives,  Basharat Saleem said that the mandate of the cooperative sector is not earning profit only but to provide services to the people with distinction, especially to the farmers and poor sections of the society. He asked the functionaries of JCC Bank to intensify the recovery mechanism for improvement the financial health of the institution.
Earlier,  GM CCB, Sikander Gupta gave resume of the activities of the bank. He apprised that JCCB came into existence on April 30, 1914 during the regime of Maharaja’s in the State and completed its centenary (100th) year of its existence this year.
Managing Director, JCC Bank Ganesh Chander Sharma also spoke on the occasion.  Additional Registrar Coop Societies Anajna Tikoo, Jt Registrars   Trishla Kumari, Tanveer Iqbal Malik, Mohd Rashid Choudhary besides  AGM,  NABARD and senior officers of RBI, Cooperatives SFC and  JAKFED were present on the occasion.
Similar function was organised by the Department of Cooperatives at Udhampur in association with Universal Housing Coop Ltd. Asstt Registrar Coop Societies Udhampur F C Slaria was the chief guest. He highlighted the importance of Cooperative movement in the country. He also lauded the efforts of efforts of Project manager Capt S L Manhas of the Universal Housing society for registering rapid growth.
