SRINAGAR, Apr 5: Three persons including a policeman were arrested for extortion today at Damhal in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The accused persons, imposing themselves as militants were involved in extorting money from the people.
A cash amount of Rs 1.7 lakh was extorted from one Ahmadulla, a resident of Nandi Marge Yard Kha, Kulgam and a cash amount of Rs 70,000 was extorted from another one Mohammad Hussain Dar, a resident of Mandigari Damhal, Kulgam.
The three persons were identified as Hilal Ahmad Dar, a resident of Ganjipora Wonpoh, Kulgam, Parvaiz Bhat, a resident of Ponew, Kulgam and Mohammad Shafi Ganie, a resident of Bozigam, Kulgam.
One among the accused, Parvaiz is a Personal Security Guard (PSO) of National Conference, Block president, Homshalibugh Kulgam, Fatima from Shamshipora Arwani, Kulgam. However, an NC leader said that she is no longer associated with the party.
Police has registered a case in this regard and started further investigation.
