Srinagar, May 19: Police have arrested a cop for having links with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit in North Kashmir’s Sopore area and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
Police sources said that Hilal Gul son of Gul Mohammad Mir of Adipora, Rafiabad of Indian Reserve Police (IRP) 18th Battalion was arrested following disclosure made by the former Divisional Commander of LeT, Hafiz Naveed alias Fahadullah, who was captured by police last month.
Police sources said that one AK-47 rifle, 150 rounds of ammunition and a pressure mine was recovered from his possession. “The arms and ammunition was given to him by Fahadullah who was commanding LeT in North Kashmir”, sources added.
Sources said that Gul was working for Fahadullah and was attached to police at a vital installation in the police Department at the time of his arrest. “The cop was working with LeT since 2006 and investigations are going on to find his other involvements”, sources added.
Sources said that earlier, Gul was working with top most LeT commander Furqan who was operating in Sopore area of North Kashmir two years ago.
It may be mentioned here that Fahadullah’s arrest led to major success against LeT in Sopore area. Around two dozen militants and Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of the LeT were arrested on the disclosures made by Fahadullah.
Police continued to search for the OGWs who were working for LeT in Sopore area and Fahadullah arrest is considered as a major success against LeT in recent years.
Fahadullah’s arrest came at a time when militants were trying to re-group and intensify their operations in Kashmir valley. Sources said that the arrests are a major success as these OGWs could have been vital for providing logistic support for the militants who are trying to infiltrate into Kashmir valley.
Earlier in June last year Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested six policemen for links with Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit. These cops were allegedly involved in carrying out attacks in Srinagar city.
In August last year Police arrested a police man, Abdul Rashis Shigan, for militant links. He was also allegedly involved in killing of policemen in Srinagar.
Police militant nexus is a major worry for the security forces in Kashmir valley that has been on the forefront of fighting militancy in the State.
Meanwhile, Police said they have arrested a LeT operative who was allegedly managing finances for the militant outfit in and around Sopore.
A police spokesperson said Mudasir Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Ayub resident of Naseem Bagh, Sopore was arrested by Sopore Police today for his involvement in subversive activities.
“He had been working for the banned terrorist organisation LeT since long and has been using code name Muviya. He was arrested following a disclosure by captured LeT commander Fahadullah. The arrested militant disclosed that, Mudasir has been managing finances of the outfit in and around Sopore besides, providing logistic support to the outfit,” he said.
A case FIR No: 51/2013 under Section 13, 17, 18 UAP Act has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo in this regard. “During the personal search of Mudasir at the time of his arrest, a note of One Million Dollar along with two tokens and one authentication certificate was recovered from him. The note along with tokens is used as a novelty item having no financial obligation on part of its issuing authority. The current market value of the note is Rs 4500 ($75) only. This is at times used to cheat people around the world,” police added.
