Srinagar, Feb 1: Police in Kupwara today detained a cop for militant links while two boys were arrested by security forces as they were trying to cross the Line of Control (LoC) in Baramulla district.
Police in Kupwara today detained a cop, Imtiyaz Ahmad posted at DPL Baramulla for militant links. He is being questioned for his links with a suspected militant from whose possession one AK-47 rifle was recovered.
He was detained in a case (FIR No 16/20 u /s 13,18, ULA 7/25 A ACT) in which one suspect Fayaz Ahmad Mir son of Sonaullah resident of Bumhama, Kupwara was arrested on January 30. One AK rilfe was recovered from his possession.
And Baramulla Police today arrested two boys who were trying to cross LoC in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and were later handed over to their families.
The duo were on way from Baramulla to Uri and were apprehended by the security forces in Gantamulla area of Uri.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla Abdul Qayoom Wani told reporters that the duo who were trying to cross LoC were apprehended in Gantmulla village.
The duo had spent the night in a mosque and next day they were planning to move towards Uri for cross over.
The officer said that after counseling, these boys were handed over to their families and were advised to shun the path of violence and concentrate on their studies.
This is the second incident in last three months that boys were captured near the LoC. Six boys were apprehended by the security forces in October as they were trying to cross the LoC. They were also handed over to their families after proper counselling.
In the meantime, security forces today called off an operation which they had launched last evening in Gundchubutra village of Kralgund in Handwara area of Kupwara district.
The searches were launched by joint team of Army’s 30 RR, 92 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police last evening following the input about presence of the militants in the area.
The troops conducted house to house searches during which two persons were detained. They are being questioned. However, no militant was found in the area.
