KISHTWAR, Oct 29: Four persons including a police cop and an Engineer were killed and nine others injured after back to back landslides hit a mega power project in Drabshalla area here.
As per police sources, a driver identified as Manoj Kumar, son of Hari Lal of Gujjar Kothan was working at 850 MW Ratle Hydro Electric project in Drabshalla when his excavator was hit by a landslide. The driver got trapped under the debris and later died.

A rescue team of around dozen persons including police cops rushed to the spot to retrieve the body of the driver when another landslide hit the project site and all of them got trapped under the debris.
On getting information about the incident, a team from Police Station Kishtwar led by SHO Inspector Abid Bukhari rushed to the spot and started rescue operation.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Devansh Yadav and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar Shafqat Batt also reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
MoS PMO, who is also Member Parliament from the area, also spoke to the Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr Devansh Yadav, on receiving the report of a fatal landslide at the power project site.
Nine persons were rescued and shifted to Community Health Centre (CHC) Thathri from where four were later referred to District Hospital Doda for specialised treatment.
Four dead bodies were recovered under the debris and were identified as Sachin Kumar (Engineer), son of Angraz Singh of Salana, Mohammad Yaqoob (SgCt posted at Police Post Drabshalla), son of Fazal Din of Mahi Nagni Thathri, Moin Ahmed, son of Mohammad Hafiz Matoo of Drabshalla and Manoj Kumar (JCB operator), son of Hari Lal of Gujjar Kothan Drabshalla.
The injured were identified as Mohd Afzal (ASI), son of Abdul Samad of Paristan District Ramban, Vinod Parihar, son of Hem Raj of Drabshalla, Asif Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Bhaderwah, Babu Ram, son of Seri Lal of Joshana Drabshalla, Zubir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Hadir of Dugga Saroor, Bodh Raj Parihar, son of Hem Raj Parihar of Drabshalla, Pancham Singh, son of Naib Chand of Salana Drabshalla and Mohd Yaseen Najar, son of Ghulam Hadir Najar of Dugga Drabshalla and Sagar Roy.
Kishtwar Police has taken cognizance in this regard.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has expressed anguish over the mishap. “Deeply anguished by mishap at Drabshalla-Ratle Hydro Electric project. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Prayers for early recovery of injured. Army, SDRF and police are carrying out rescue operations. District Administration directed to provide all necessary assistance”, the Lt Governor tweeted.
