SRINAGAR, Nov 14: A policeman was injured when a militant fired on a police party after they raided a location on a specific input this evening.

Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, said that based on specific input about the presence of a militant in Jamalata area of Nawa Kadal, a raid was carried out by a small party of Srinagar Police.
As the police team approached towards suspected spot, the hiding militants fired indiscriminately, resulting in injuries to one police personnel who was evacuated to nearby hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
“Keeping in view the safety of the civilians and evening rush in the area, the police team exercised maximum restraint. However, reinforcement of CRPF and police laid cordon in the suspected clusters of houses and search started. Besides Police have registered a case and started investigation into the matter”, he said.
Kumar said that one of the militants is believed to be in the area and the operation continues.
