Cop martyred, 5 OGWs arrested

Jammu, May 16: A cop was martyred in a militant attack in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district while five Over Ground Workers of militants were arrested in Budgam district and a hideout was busted in Pulwama.
Militants attacked a naka party at Frisal Chowk in district Kulgam, resulting in serious injuries to a policeman, Mohammad Amin Bagad of village Sangarwani in district Pulwama. The policeman, a head constable, was shifted to hospital.
However, he was declared as brought dead on arrival by the doctors at the hospital. He had bullet injury on head.
The area was immediately cordoned off and searches were launched against the militants responsible for the attack.
Security forces in Budgam district busted a militant module linked to Lashkar-e-Toiba and arrested five Over Ground Workers of the outfit.
Police said that on a credible input, Budgam police along with 53 RR and 153 battalion of CRPF arrested an OGW identified as Zahoor Wani from village Arizal in Khansahib area of the district.
Police said that on his disclosure a militant hideout was busted. “Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the hideout”, it added.
Police said that four more OGWs were arrested during the course of investigation. They have been identified as Younis Mir, Aslam Sheikh, Parvaiz Sheikh and Rehman Lone, all residents of Khansahib.
As per the police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and shelter to LeT militants operating in the area.
A case has been registered in Police Station Khansahib and further investigation is in progress.
In the meantime, security forces busted a militant hideout in Pulwama district of South Kashmir today and recovered arms and ammunition.
Police said that based on a specific input, a joint party of 55 RR, JKP and CRPF launched a search operation in village Chakura and busted a militant hideout of Hizbul Mujahideen.
The arms and ammunition were recovered from the hideout which belonged to Hizbul Mujahjideen. They include one SLR, two pistols, IED making material including huge quantity of explosives, batteries and detonators besides large quantity of ammunition
Police said that the recovery emerged as a big success in thwarting nefarious design of militants against security forces and averted a major attack planned by militants in Pulwama district.
Militants hurled a grenade towards joint camp of CRPF and Police at Newa Pulwama today. However, the grenade didn’t explode.
