REASI, July 10: A Policeman was brutally murdered with a sharp edged weapon near Gran Morh, under the jurisdiction of Police Station Reasi, here today.

The deceased, identified as Constable Zahoor Ahmed Malik, alias Raju, age 35 years, (Belt number 481/KTR), son of Mohd Qasim, was presently posted in Kishtwar district. He was attacked by the accused with a sharp edged weapon resulting into his on the spot death.
Acting swiftly, Police arrested the alleged accused within an hour after the crime came into notice. Identified as Shakoor Ahmed alias Shoki, son of Abdul Hamid of Katal, Gran Morh, Reasi, the accused is a history-sheeter in police record. He was trying to flee when the district Police team nabbed him.
Police said that some old rivalry was the apparent cause of murder. Weapon of offence was also seized from the site of crime.
According to police, an information was received at Police Station Reasi this afternoon around 2.40 pm regarding dead body of Constable Zahoor Ahmed lying near Gran Morh, Industrial Area. After shifting the body to District Hospital Reasi for further examination and post mortem, a case FIR No. 115/ 2024 under Sections 103 BNS, 4/25 Arms Act was registered at Police Station Reasi.
Taking note of the gravity of offence, SSP Reasi Mohita Sharma immediately formed different teams headed by DySP HQ Reasi, Neeraj Padyar and SHO Reasi to nab the accused involved in the crime. After extensive efforts, Police apprehended the accused, who was trying to flee the district.
The preliminary investigations hint that some old rivalry led to murder of the cop. Further investigation in the case is going on.
