POONCH, June 7: A police constable committed suicide by shooting himself with his own rifle during duty at District Hospital Complex here today.
A senior police official said that incident took place at around 12.30 pm when Constable Mohd Aslam (45), son of Mohd Shafi, resident of Kamsar village in Poonch, suddenly fired four rounds on his chest and throat. The jawan reportedly was killed on the spot. He had been deployed along with some other policemen in the hospital for security.
Immediately after the incident senior police officers including SP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain rushed to the site. The police took the cognizance of the matter and initiated investigation. It has been alleged that the cop had strained relations with his constable wife Parveen Akhtar for the last some time. He had two minor daughters and they were also staying with the mother. The body of the constable was handed over to the family for last rites after postmortem.
