CEO takes cognizance of MCC violations

JAMMU, Apr 19: Taking cognizance of the complaints with regard to violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) from different quarters, State Election authorities directed suspension of a Police Constable and shifting of Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) and a VLW besides removal of hoardings of a former Minister and contesting candidate from Kathua-Udhampur- Doda Lok Sabha seat.
Official sources said that Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, received numerous complaints during first two phases of the ongoing LoK Sabha elections. After investigation and inquiries, the CEO took action against the people involved.
On the complaint of NC provincial secretary, Showkat Ahmed Mir, against J&K Police Constable, Yasir Saif, posted at DPL Budgam for taking part in election campaigning, the said Police personal was placed under suspension by the concerned SSP on the recommendation of the State Election authorities.
In yet another complaint of senior PDP leader and former Minister Naeem Akhtar, against District Panchayat Officer Anantnag, Abdul Rashid Rayoo and Chief Agriculture Officer Mohd Iqbal Khan, for violation of Model Code of Conduct, the Election authorities shifted the CAO being relative of the politically active person in the area but dismissed the complaint against the DPO for not having sufficient grounds.
A VLW, Barkat Hussain placed in Thanamandi area was also shifted on the basis of public complaints with regard to MCC violations. After inquiry and the recommendation of Election authorities, the said RDD official was shifted and attached with the office of SDM Thanamandi.
In yet another complaint by BJP leader, Hunar Gupta against former Health Minister Ch Lal Singh and contesting candidate from Kathua-Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat, the Election authorities taking cognizance ordered immediate removal of hoardings of former Health Minister from the public places across the region.
