RAMBAN, Jan 1: A cop was allegedly thrashed by a contractor and his associates inside the Police Station Ramban in presence of SHO and other cops.
As per sources, a Head Constable Mohammad Afzal Mir posted at Police Station Ramban was allegedly thrashed by a sub contractor engaged by Gammon India Contractor Company of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) inside the police station.
In the incident, the cop received injuries. The cop was thrashed inside the police station in the presence of SHO, when the sub contractor was called for questioning regarding the earth mover machine accidents in which two operators lost their lives in the span of three days.
“No cognizance or FIR has been registered in the matter till the filing of this report”, source said, however senior police cops when contacted remained tight lipped over the incident.
When contacted, SSP Ramban Anita Sharma said that the cop and sub contractor had heated arguments during questioning regarding death of two JCB operators. However, she claimed that the matter was resolved.
“The incident has become talk of the town as people are thinking that if a cop can be assaulted inside the police station and that too in presence of his seniors, than where the common and poor man stands in such circumstances”, sources said, adding that the such incident should be dealt with iron hands so that people don’t even think to assault or manhandle a Government servant.
