Copper futures rise on global cues, spot demand

NEW DELHI, Mar 27: Copper prices rose by 0.38 per cent to Rs 398.60 per kg in futures trade today on a firm global trend and increased domestic demand.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 1.50, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 398.60 per kg in business turnover of 554 lots.
The metal for delivery in June edged up by Rs 1.35, or 0.34 per cent, to Rs 403.20 per kg in 39 lots.
Market analysts said besides increased demand from consuming industries, a firming trend overseas on speculation that some hedge funds were buying back the metal after betting on a price drop this quarter, influenced copper prices at futures trade here.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months climbed 0.7 per cent to trade at USD 6,554 a tonne on the London Metal Exchange. (AGENCIES)
