KATHUA, May 28: A cop who was attacked by his relatives over a minor dispute on a piece of land in Hiranagar two days back is battling for his life in GMC Jammu.
Wife of Pawan Kumar, ASI in Armed Police presently posted at Srinagar in Kashmir Valley and son of Pooran Chand said her husband had come on 10 days leave to his home and he was beaten by lathis and sticks by his relatives over a minor land dispute two days back while he was on his way to his fields. His wife said that he felt unconscious in the fields and when she came to know about it, she rushed to the spot and with the help of neighbors shifted him to Hiranagar Hospital. Seeing his condition critical as he had suffered multiple fractures the doctor referred him to GMC Jammu where his condition is still serious, she added.
She said her husband was given warning by his relatives that they will not spare him when he will come to his residence on leave and the family had made a complaint with Hiranagar Police Station which failed to take timely action and ensure security of her husband.
She said though police on her complaint later registered FIR against the assailants but it failed to arrest them till date and they are roaming freely in the area.
In an appeal to SSP Kathua she demanded immediate arrest of the culprits responsible for attack on her husband and punishment to them under law.
She said on her plea for action against the culprits, police instead of taking action against them said that it is a family dispute which should be settled by the families amicably.
