Srinagar, Nov 1: The Core Group meeting of security agencies today reviewed the security ahead of Assembly elections, the voting for which is starting later this month.
The meeting that was co-chaired by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Chinar Corps Lt General Subrata Saha, and Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, K Rajendra Kumar and was held at Badami Bagh cantonment discussed various issues to evolve a comprehensive strategy to respond to the various external and internal security challenges during elections.
The meeting discussed the plans for maintaining a robust counter infiltration and counter militancy grid.
The meeting discussed the strategy of strengthening of counter-infiltration grid along the Line of Control (LoC) so as to stop any infiltration attempts aimed at disrupting the polls in Kashmir.
It also discussed the internal security challenges faced by the security agencies during the elections from over 150-160 militants who are operating in Kashmir valley. It may be mentioned that security agencies have inputs that militants are planning to disturb the poll process. So far the security agencies have busted three militant modules who were trying to target the poll process.
A defence spokesman said here that the Core Group meeting was held at Badami Bagh Cantonment this evening to review the overall situation and to draw out the security strategy for the forthcoming events in the Valley such as Darbar move, Assembly Elections, preparedness for winter disasters and winter tourism.
The spokesman said that the meeting was attended by Additional DG, J&K Police, SM Sahai; GOC, Vajra Division, GOC, Dagger Division, GOC Victor Force, GOC Kilo Force, GOC 31 Sub Area, IG CRPF, IG BSF, IGP, Kashmir Zone, Additional Commissioner, Special Bureau, Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Rohit Kansal, and Joint Deputy Director, IB, and DIG, Seema Suraksha Bal (SSB).
“Addressing the members and the other officials in attendance, Lt Gen Subrata Saha complimented the members and the officials of the Core Group for the high level of synergy amongst all the agencies in addressing the security concerns of Kashmir”, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said that the DGP, K Rajendra Kumar, elaborated on the key security initiatives that have been put into place to manage the law and order situation in the Valley.
It may be mentioned here that the police chief reviewed the security arrangements across Valley during this visits to district headquarters in South and North Kashmir.
The defence spokesman said that counter militancy operations conducted this year were also discussed in the meeting. “It was brought out that a total of 81 terrorists have been killed in different operations along the Line of Control and in the hinterland which was higher than the number of terrorists killed in the previous two years that is 2012 and 2013. In the current year, a total of seven IED’s were defused resulting in averting major tragedies”, the spokesman added.
