Top officials attend meeting

JAMMU, Feb 11: The Core Group reviewed security situation, infiltration attempts on the border, terror funding and radicalization of youth through Social Media besides a host of other issues in a meeting at 16 Corps Headquarters at Nagrota.
Lt Gen Manjinder Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) White Knight Corps (Nagrota Corps) and Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh co-chaired the meeting which was attended by top officials of BSF, CRPF, Intelligence agencies, civil administration and Formation Commanders of the 16 Corps.
Those present at the meeting include DG CID Rashmi Ranjan Swain, IG BSF Jammu Frontiers DK Boora, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Dr Raghav Langar, IG CRPF, Divisional Commissioner SB, Director Intelligence Bureau and formation commanders of all formations of the White Knight Corps.
Sources said issues related to present security situation figured prominently in the meeting amid inputs of militants in Pakistan trying to infiltrate into Jammu and Kashmir from the Line of Control (LoC) as well as International Border (IB).
While there has been no major infiltration attempt by the militants in the recent past, sources said there were inputs that the militants might try to sneak-in from Rajouri and Poonch districts on the LoC to create disturbance.
However, the Army has been maintaining very high alert all along the LoC to foil the militant designs.
Few days back, the BSF had gunned down three Pakistani smugglers on the International Border in Samba sector and recovered large quantity of narcotics and arms from their possession.
“Terror funding, radicalization of youth through Social Media and security situation particularly in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban areas was also reviewed during the high-level meeting,” sources said.
Steps were discussed to check radicalization of the youth on Social Media, they added.
Network of the Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and latest modus operandi of the terrorist groups to revive terrorism in Jammu region and disturb peaceful situation and communal harmony were also discussed during the meeting.
“The synergy between Armed Forces, Intelligence agencies and para-military forces was appreciated by all as it has played key role in maintaining peace in the region by thwarting various inimical designs by the anti-national elements,” a Defence spokesman said after the meeting.
Various other aspects of security situation also figured in the meeting, sources said, adding the security forces were determined to thwart nefarious designs of Pakistan, the terror outfits and OGW network in the Jammu region.
