Core Group reviews situation

JAMMU, Aug 7: The Core Group meeting today reviewed security scenario in the Kashmir valley at a high level meeting of Army, police, para-military, Intelligence and civil administration officials in Srinagar.
Lt Gen Om Prakash, General Officer Commanding (GOC), Chinar Corps and Security Advisor co-chaired the meeting along with Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Prasad at Badami Bagh Cantonment, Srinagar.
This was the first meeting of Lt Gen Prakash and Mr Prasad after taking over their new assignments.
Sources said various security related issues ahead of Independence Day, security scenario including infiltration attempts, recent grenade attacks in Kashmir and various other issues figured in the meeting.
The Core Group Meeting decided to take various measures to keep the militancy and infiltration under check.
Lt Gen Prakash complimented the officials for high level of synergy that existed between all stake holders in addressing security concerns in the Valley. He stressed that bonhomie at the operational level should be further enhanced at functional level.
Mr Prasad elaborated on key security issues.
The meeting deliberated on initiatives being taken by security forces to maintain peace and harmony in the Valley. It carried out holistic introspection of the way ahead.
The Core Group deliberated on numerous security issues and took an overall view of prevailing external and internal environment.
