JAMMU, July 30: Additional Sessions Judge Anticorruption Jammu, Jaffer Hussain Beigh today framed corruption charges against Ramesh Chander and T P Singh, both Assistant Directors, Babu Ram, the then Storekeeper and Babu Ram the then Tehsil Supply Officer for misappropriation of over Rs 74 lakh in the CAPD Udhampur.
After hearing Senior Advocates BS Salathia, Sunil Sethi, Sudershan Sharma and Sachin Dogra for the accused persons whereas CPO Rajesh Bakshi for the Crime Branch, Additional Sessions Judge Anticorruption observed, “during the period of February 2010 to August 2010 Babu Ram managed posting as Incharge Storekeeper Food Store at CAPD Udhampur and while abusing his official position manipulated the fake official record including the stock receipt register and bi-weekly statements.
He deposited an amount of Rs 7, 83, 500 with Government Treasury Udhampur on behalf of dealers for misappropriating ration knowing the fact that the permits had not been issued in respect of this ration. Moreover, 42 permits/ treasury vouchers against which ration was fraudulently shown to have been issued by him to the dealers, were not reflected in issue register and seven trucks loaded with food grains received by him were not entered in the stock register.
Out of these, three trucks were shown in bi-weekly statements submitted to Assistant Director/TSO Udhampur as such he misappropriated the entrusted food grains including the costs of empty bags to the tune of Rs 74, 07, 370.31 causing loss to the State exchequer.
